Content Management System (CMS) Options
Nowadays, there are a number of different CMS offerings available in the market, each catering to different needs and levels of technical expertise. These options can be broadly categorized into three main types:
- Headless CMS platforms like Contentful, Sanity or Strapi
- Traditional CMS solutions such as WordPress with WooCommerce
- E-commerce specific platforms like Shopify or BigCommerce
Each of these options offers unique features and trade-offs that need to be carefully considered based on the specific requirements of the online store. Additionally, using frameworks such as Shopify or Woocommerce can often result in being locked into a higher than anticipated monthly fee due to the addition of marketplace plugins that provide core functionality.
- Wordpress costs can quickly get out of hand with plugins, themes, etc, which could only be offset with significant development time, additionally, hosting
- A smaller developer community, and bad dev outlook
- Sanity base pricing is generous, but can get expensive depending on the additional features you want to include (extra datasets, increased quotas, SAML, etc most of which aren’t necessarily needed or can be accomplished cheaper)
This website was built with Sanity, and it has allowed me to dynamically add and edit live content on the website. This includes all of these blog posts, but it also includes all of the service offerings offered in the services shop.
